PROFESSIONAL Barry has fostered a collaborative spirit rooted in actionable, sustainable design for almost five decades. With Founding Partner Todd Walker, FAIA and a host of archimaniacs, he has helped advance the practice to national prominence. archimania has been ranked as high as 8th nationally in design via ARCHITECT Magazine’s ARCH50. archimaia is the most award winning firm in the history of Tennessee and has the distinction of realizing the world’s first two dual-certified Zero Energy and Zero Carbon buildings by International Living Future Insititute, Both buildings met the AIA 2030 Challenge a full decade early, are LEED Platinum certified, and are AIA COTE® Top Ten award recepients, the industry’s best-known award program recognizing innovative projects integrating exemplary performance with compelling design. Barry was elevated to AIA Fellowship in 2010 for his contributions in design. He received the 2022 William Strickland Lifetime Achievement Award for the Profession of Architecture, AIA Tennessee’s highest individual award. His work has been recongized with over 115 awards. And a fun fact, Barry’s birthday is on Earth Day, April 22. SERVICE Barry is an architect first, yet is also an author, educator, juror, mentor, speaker, and community board member. He has lectured at over a hundred forums including the American Institute of Architects, The Architect’s Newspaper, ASLA, NACORE, PSMJ Resources, SMPS, ULI, and USGBC. This includes speaking at a AIA National Convention and numerous AIA regional, state, and local conventions, and an AIA YAF/YCF National Conference. Barry has served on a variety of AIA Tennessee and AIA Memphis committees. He authored PSMJ’s Guide to Successful Alliances for A/E/C Firms Design Alliances. He has served on community boards including: Chair of Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Greater Memphis, Chair of Memphis in May International, Vice Chair of Hattiloo Theatre, Board Member of Visible Music College, and Member of the Chairman’s Circle of the Memphis Regional Chamber. Barry was a Charter Member of the University for Tennessee College of Architecture and Design Board of Advisors for almost a decade and a graduate of Leadership Memphis, Class of 1996.
