Description
The Medical Research Centre in Wiesbaden-Delkenheim is conceived as a flexible and sustainably designed research and laboratory building with up to eleven divisible rental units from 500 m². The double-comb structure of two- and three-storey blocks is arranged on a landscaped site with future expansion potential. In addition to laboratory, research, and office spaces, the building includes conference facilities, roof terraces, landscaped courtyards, and flats for researchers and trial participants.
The architecture follows a clear low-tech concept with durable materials and energy-efficient building systems. Floor-to-ceiling operable windows provide natural daylight and ventilation, while balanced window-to-wall ratios improve thermal performance.
The building is based on monolithic ›Poroton‹ masonry construction with mineral render finishes and without additional thermal insulation systems. Concrete use was reduced to essential structural elements only, lowering embodied carbon and enabling simple material separation and recycling. Heating and cooling are provided by geothermal energy and heat pumps, while a 1,000 m² photovoltaic system supplies renewable electricity.
