Weihe River Landscape Pavilion
Description
The Weihe River Landscape Pavilion, located in a riverside park, served as a public toilet, landscape pavilion, and shop in a two-story building. Between walkways and woods, architects translated the traditional form into contemporary expression: extending the roof into the land, and making a triangle frame structure, then cutting the wall and rolling over the platform as a terrace, seats, planters, and ceilings, opening views from south to north, and timber grilles as the façade, penetrate airs freely. Skylights and windows help natural lights and vistas. The outer surface used materials textured with rammed earth, like broken ground. The inner surface, decorated with copper plates, mirrored the glossy plants. The rammed earth context blended with the metal panels blurred the edge inside-out. Grand scale with tall ceilings makes a fluent spatial sense of nature, lighting, and plants, alive the vigor. The pavilion is both an architecture and landscape in the park. Architects mixed the materials, deconstructed the spatial form, and landscaped the building, exploring the primitiveness of public facilities and extraordinary natural experiences for people.
