Description
The No. 5 Courtyard project is beside the Hangtian Bridge on the West Third Ring Road, Beijing. Based on the public attributes and the architectural style of a specific era, considering the urban attributes and aesthetics has become important goal of the renewal design.
The design develops the characteristics of the original long strip-shaped windows, forming a wide "scroll-like view" with a combination of new construction technologies to show the unique modular structure and exquisite form. This exploration realizes the logical grafting from timber structure to masonry structure and is an adaptive renewal following the characteristics of the aged building.
How to deal with the relationship among the building and urban space has become another key point. The design enhances the permeability of the ground floor and conducts an overall design of the building, near-ground space and the landscape courtyard. The interior provides users with a group of public spaces with different experiences, including the exhibition hall, the lobby, the canteen, and the four-season hall on the second floor.
