Description
he design firstly simplifies traditional dragon imagery by stripping away complicated and colourful decorations. Then abstracted the dragon's form into fundamental components. Inspired by Shang Dynasty (17-11 century B.C.) bronze motifs, Peking-Opera costumes and dragon boat’s profiles, the prototype form is generated by using basic geometric shapes. The final design is split into lines and hatches, slightly offsetting hatches to evoke the layered effect of traditional multi-block woodcuts. Thus, modern and clean simple design language, paired with vintage details, results in a playful contemporary image.
For animation, the design adapts to diverse application scenarios. In this case—a WeChat Spring Festival sticker pack—the prototype form is adjusted and reinterpreted accordingly with holiday elements such as traditional Chinese dragon dances and Tang Dynasty festive colour palettes.
In brief, this is a design integrated both modern design language and traditional chines elements.
