Description
Kunshan, a manufacturing city in Suzhou, churns out half of the world's laptops and one - tenth of its mobile phones.Among its population of 3 million, 2 million are migrant workers who are settled in surrounding industrial zones. Their lives are fraught with hardship: subpar accommodation, scant commercial facilities, minimal leisure time, and little cultural interaction.
In this project,in order to enable every migrant worker feel the inclusiveness of this city and live a more dignified life,an industrial neighborhood center has been implanted on the site with abandoned dormitories in Fuyuan industrial park. The abandoned dormitories were repurposed into cozy and modern dormitories for migrant workers. At the same time,a newly built prefabricated neighborhood center, with first and last bus hub stations on the ground floor, was built to provide commercial services, dining, training, and entertainment for the surrounding users. In the future, the second-phase dormitories will be constructed by using prefabricated technology on site. These new "eat - live - learn - play" modules have completely transformed the previously desolate nights into vibrant ones, making the city warmer.
