Zero Carbon Cabin-Forest ranger workstation renovation
Description
Yanqing District, located northwest of Beijing, serves as a vital ecological zone with abundant forest resources. To address forest rangers' needs and boost ecological tourism, this project will establish Beijing’s first "Forest Ranger Home" and Yanqing’s first zero-carbon building. Originally a drug warehouse for the forest protection station, the project retained part of its original structure during renovation while locally replacing it with modern glued laminated timber. It uses 250mm glass wool wall insulation, argon-filled triple-glazed passive windows/doors, and SIP roof insulation to tackle the cold climate. Roof modifications maximize south-facing solar panel areas for efficiency, paired with zonal PTC graphene floor heating and a photovoltaic sunroom with a ventilation chimney. Solar systems are projected to generate 49,660.65 kWh/year, surpassing annual consumption, with surplus power for grid sale. Through design and material optimization, the project complies with China’s zero-carbon building standards, ensuring net emissions ≤ 0 and a carbon offset ratio ≤ 30%.
