Description
Pugong Mountain in Henan Province is a
limestone mountain. Over the decades,
local residents have built hundreds of
small lime kilns to produce lime. Residents
quickly became rich, but the environment
was badly damaged. After the introduction
of the national environmental protection
policy, the site has become an abandoned
gypsum mine site.
To promote the idea o f sustainable
development, we were invited to design
the museum. We integrated the new and
old plaster kiln together, taking the old
kiln group as a whole relic park landmark
door, transforming the kiln head for viewing
platform, setting one of the old kilns as
the museum's main entrance, making
the mine, old plaster kiln and the new
museum as an organic whole. We set
several key mining sites from the original
mine site as ecological education sites,
and set observation windows and viewing
platforms at the corresponding positions of
the museum building, so that the museum
building is closely anchored in this special
place.
