Description
The project is in Huangtu Slope, Badong City, Hubei Province, China. In 1992, the Three Gorges Dam project led to Badong county being submerged, and the new city was urgently relocated to Huangtu Slope. Howerver, due to the hasty decision of the government, the new county was built in a geological landslide zone. As soon as it was completed, houses collapsed and casualties occurred, quickly becoming ruins.
From 2008 to 2017, Badong County carried out a comprehensive relocation and ecological management and restoration of the loess slope. By clearing the chaotic plants and excavating the surface soil, the city ruins gradually reveal their true face, resembling the scenery of Machu Picchu in Peru.
The design takes “Sports Vitality and the Rebirth of the Old City” as its vision and adheres to the concept of “preserving site memories, displaying geological features, and incorporating contemporary functions.”The park has not only become a research base integrating ecological and geological education, but also provided a sports and leisure destination for Badong residents, while also evoking memories of those who lived and worked there over 20 years ago.
