Description
Jinyu Xingfa Science Park, formerly Xingfa Cement Factory, is located in Huairou Science City, near the Great Wall. Once key to Beijing’s urban growth—supplying 80% of cement for the 2008 Olympics—it ceased operations in 2015. In 2019, it was chosen as the site for the Yanqi Lake Institute of Applied Mathematics, led by Prof. Shing-Tung Yau. The master plan by BIAD and HPP preserves 54 industrial structures and uses a historical railway to link five functional zones. Adaptive reuse transformed silos, workshops, and corridors into studios, labs, offices, and public spaces. Key buildings include the 18-Silos Studio, Yau’s Studio, and a research-dining complex. New buildings such as a library, gymnasium, and lecture hall complement the old. The site integrates low-carbon strategies and landscape restoration. In 2025, it was named a model urban renewal project by MOHURD. Today, it is a vibrant science park blending history, industry, and innovation.
