Description
As part of a long-term partnership between the Georgian National Museum and studioMilou, we collaborated with the GNM team to design the permanent exhibition for the provincial museum of Oni in the Racha region of Georgia. This region has long been known for its mining and blacksmithing traditions and served as a crossroads of cultural exchange since Greek and Roman times. The archaic myths of the Golden Fleece and Prometheus, rooted in the South Caucasus, underscore the region’s role as the cradle of Western metallurgy.
The permanent exhibition presents the collection in chronological order. The main sections are: Geology, Archaeology, Medieval Times, and Ethnography. The exhibition begins in full artificial light, with natural light gradually introduced in the Ethnographic section to prepare visitors for the outdoor ethnographic exhibition.
The design aims to bring the public as close as possible to the objects through a spectacular presentation, where artefacts appear to float, creating a layered superimposition of stories in the visitor’s experience.
