Description
The Lee Depository of Art, Artifact, and Media proposes an “open wall” in Songhyeon. This site, once a pine-covered hill that protected Gyeongbokgung Palace during the Joseon Dynasty, later became private property in the late Joseon period. It was then used as official housing during the Japanese occupation and for nearly 70 years after liberation. Until the 4–5 meter-high wall was removed two years ago, most remembered it as a closed, inaccessible space. Now, after being shut off for 100 to 200 years, the pine hill is being returned to the public. "Ridam"—the open wall—reclaims the ground as a fully open space, allowing people, pine trees, and history (including buried cultural heritage) to be reintegrated. It is a gesture of inclusion, transparency, and restoration.
