Jenchieh Hung is a world-renowned architect, educator, curator, and artist, internationally recognized for his experimental approach to contemporary architecture in Asia. He is the principal architect of Jenchieh Hung + Kulthida Songkittipakdee / HAS design and research, an award-winning architecture and design practice based in Bangkok, Thailand. Through the studio’s multidisciplinary work across architecture, interiors, exhibitions, research, and urban discourse, Professor Jenchieh Hung has become one of the important voices representing contemporary Thai architecture on the global stage. His international influence has been recognized through his appointment as a juror for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) – RIBA International Awards: Asia Pacific Awards, becoming the first architect from Thailand to serve in this prestigious role, as well as for The Association of Siamese Architects (ASA) – ASA Experimental Design Awards in Thailand. He was also appointed as a guest editor of the Journal of the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA Journal), contributing critical perspectives on the emergence of contemporary Thai architecture on the global stage.
Educated through both international academic and professional experiences, Professor Jenchieh Hung has developed a design philosophy that explores the evolving relationship between nature, material, culture, climate, and urban transformation. His architectural approach often investigates the tension between raw natural conditions and rapidly developing contemporary cities, particularly within the Asian context. Together with Professor Kulthida Songkittipakdee, he introduced the conceptual framework Nature Trilogy: Innate Nature, Evolved Nature, Hybrid Nature, which reflects the studio’s ongoing exploration of architecture as a mediator between nature and the human-made environment. In academia, Jenchieh Hung currently serves as a distinguished professor, visiting professor, adjunct/visiting professor, adjunct professor, and design critic in architecture at institutions including Tongji University, Chulalongkorn University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, and World University of Design. His internationally recognized projects include the Museum of Modern Aluminum Thailand, Simple Art Museum, High Line Bangkok, Aluminum Grotto and Public Ground, The Glade Bookstore, Forest Villa, and Casa de Zanotta, which received the winner award at The Chicago Athenaeum Museum’s International Architecture Awards in the United States and the Créateurs Design Awards in France, making his firm the only Thai firm to receive these prestigious international recognitions in 2025.
Architect and Professor Jenchieh Hung is also active as a curator and artist. In 2023, he was appointed exhibition chairman and principal curator of The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage, curating the Infinity Ground Architecture Exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) and the Collective Language: Asian Contemporary Architecture Exhibition at the Thailand IMPACT Arena Exhibition and Convention Center. The exhibition invited renowned architects such as Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA, Wong Mun Summ and Richard Hassell of WOHA, Minsuk Cho of Mass Studies, Vo Trong Nghia Architects, Marina Tabassum Architects, and many others, becoming one of the first large-scale Asian architectural exhibitions collaboratively organized with the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA). His work has also been frequently invited to major international exhibitions and events, including Milan Design Week, Bangkok Design Week, Guangzhou Design Week, Design Shanghai, the Urbanism\Architecture Bi-City Biennale of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, The Association of Siamese Architects (ASA) – ASA Architect Expo, and Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, among others.
